Over the years and the many miles traveled, we have all learned what tools we need carry in case of a breakdown. For some that might translate into a bottle of Jack. For the motorcycle enthusiast, that means which wrenches, tape, and other devices needed to get you, your buddy, or other biker back on the road. Yes, we do have a common code to help other motorcyclists when we see them on the side of the road. Here at K and G Cycles (www.kandgcycles,com) we have been on both sides of the road and want to share some of the knowledge we have acquired over the miles. Below is a list of tools we pack with every time the bike leaves the garage.
The first thing you will want to pack is a Tool Kit like Part # 07523. Chock full of the most commonly needed tools and sizes you will wonder why you didn’t get your hands on this sooner. This set includes: 3/8″, 7/16″, 1/2″ 9/16″ & 10mm combination wrenches, an 8″ adjustable wrench, locking pliers, a 1/4″ socket set with 48 tooth mini ratchet as well as a 2″ extension. That’s not all, it also comes with a 5/8″ spark plug socket and spark plug gap Tool, 3 Torx keys, 5 Hex keys, a 6 way screw driver, a roll of electrical tape, some WD-40, an assortment of cable ties and mechanics wire. Don’t forget about the flashlight and tire gauge too. All of the most used tools in a handy polyester carry pouch that stows in just about any free space.
In addition to the tool kit, I like to take a quart of oil, a set of spark plugs, a pair of road flares, and some extra fuses. I also like to carry a First-Aid Kit as a precaution should the motorcycle bite me while trying to heal it’s wound. As I said this is my interpretation of what tools are needed on the road should a mechanical mishap occur. You will undoubtedly create a kit suited to your needs and storage capacities.
Although Roadside Assistance is a great assurance to have, sometimes I think the Boy Scouts have it right – “Be Prepared” and most situations won’t ruin your ride. K and G Cycles (www.kandgcycles.com) has a great selection of tools, kits, and miscellaneous items needed to keep you going in those random moments when it’s your time to break down.
