These high quality American made Pinion Gears offer engine builders the most common sizes needed when installing performance cams or rebuilding motors. Cam and pinion gears must be matched for pitch diameter to provide correct gear lash. If the gear lash is too tight the motor will whine. If the gear lash is too loose the motor will knock. Most aftermarket cams come with red color coded gears. A cam of a certain color code usually should be used with a pinion gear of the same color code, but matching tolerance variations in the crankcase and the cam cover may require the use of a larger or smaller pinion gear. Geras are measured over two .105 gauge pins. Fits Big Twin 1939/1989 as listed.JIMS Pinion Gear for Tapered Shaft Big Twin 1954/Early 1977. Color code: Red. Diameter over .105 pins: 1.4475/1.4480. These bolt-in type cams are designed for 88ci Twin Cam engines with stock compression using hydraulic lifters
They are compatible with carbureted or fuel injected models. Note: EI models will require re-calibration of the ECU
Reduced maintenance (no plastic chain guides or tension shoes to wear and contaminate your engine oil or clog oil passages)
Cam timing remains constant. All drive and cam gears utilize a light press fit (gear lash) thus eliminating any chain stretch
Bearing loads are reduced. No spring loaded chain tensioners are used (which can rob up to 4 horsepower)
Critical sprocket alignment is unnecessary
Can be used with the OEM non-adjustable pushrods, but we suggest using our adjustable pushrods found in the Engine Section to ease installation and eliminate the need to remove the fuel tank and rocker covers
